Rest in Resonance: A Sound Immersion with Live Cello

Season: Autumn

Element: Metal

Energy: Yin

Organs: Lungs, Large Intestine

Theme: Letting go, Boundaries, Clarity

A door left open to the possibility that things do not have to remain as they are.

This gathering is an invitation to slow down — to perceive ourselves through sensation rather than thought, and to return to the place we are always carrying with us: the body. A familiar landscape that still, somehow, reveals something new.

We begin in movement: a somatic practice to bring you back into the body, its weight, its warmth, its own intelligence. Then we settle into stillness — Restorative Yoga, held poses, supported rest — while live cello moves through the room, a soundscape to guide you inward and to give the breath something to follow.

In the space between movement and stillness, we'll explore the subtle textures of sensation, and let the breath become a way of finding ground. It’s not the thought about change, but the direct experience of it — a nervous system held differently than it's used to being held, boundaries that slowly shift, softening where they no longer need to hold so tightly.

A space to notice, to soften, to listen differently. And perhaps, from there, to discover another way of being.

The Journey

  • Geometric drawing of an outline square with sections divided by vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines.

    Element: Metal

This immersion draws its qualities from the Metal element, as understood in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Metal governs the lungs and the breath, and its season is autumn — the time of letting go, of what has already given what it had to give. Its movement is inward and downward; its gift is discernment — knowing what is essential, and releasing what is not. Metal asks us to meet loss as refinement instead of failure, and to find the shape of what remains in what falls away.

    Somatic Movement

We will first dive into slow and mindful movements, bringing awareness to the sensations that we are able to perceive as we reduce our speed. Noticing how we relate to the ground, to its support - and how subtle shifts and internal responses start to emerge within the body. A different practice that opens a new world of perception.

    Restorative Yoga

Moving into Restorative Yoga, transitioning from movement into stillness. Supported poses and longer holds will invite the body to release effort, soften areas of tension, and gradually settle into a deeper state of rest. A space to pause, receive, and reconnect with the natural rhythm of the breath.

    Live Cello

Live cello soundscapes will accompany the restorative practice, creating spacious and immersive layers of sound. Curated lines will invite deeper relaxation, presence, and an altered awareness on the boundaries of the body.
